National Family Caregivers Month

National Family Caregivers Month is celebrated every November to recognize and honor family caregivers across the country.

A family caregiver is anyone who provides any type of physical and/or emotional care for an ill or disabled loved one at home. Family caregivers can range from parents, adult children, spouses, family members, neighbors, friends etc. This year, the theme is #BeCareCurious to bring curiosity and awareness to a loved one’s goals, treatment options, research, a care plan, and insurance coverage.

Celebrating family caregivers during the month of November enables all of us to:

  • Raise awareness of family caregiver issues
  • Celebrate the issues of family caregivers
  • Educate family caregivers about self-identification
  • Increase support for family caregivers

Caregiver Action Network (the National Family Caregivers Association) began promoting national recognition of family caregivers in 1994. President Clinton signed the first NFC Month Presidential Proclamation in 1997 and every president since has followed suit by issuing an annual proclamation recognizing and honoring family caregivers each November.

Family members, friends, and neighbors devote countless hours to providing care to their relatives or loved ones. During National Family Caregivers Month, we recognize and thank the humble heroes who do so much to keep our families and communities strong.”
