International Day for Tolerance

One organization we highlight today is UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization), a specialized agency in the United Nations with the role of deepening the binds of a single humanity, through understanding, dialogue and knowledge. UNESCO was founded on November 16th, 1945 with a declared purpose to contribute peace and security through international collaboration through educational, scientific, and cultural reforms.

Another organization worth mentioning is Teaching Tolerance, founded in 1991 to prevent the growth of hate with free resources to teachers, administrators, counselors and other practitioners that “create civil and inclusive school communities where children are respected, valued and welcome participants.” The mission of Teaching Tolerance is “to reduce prejudice, improve intergroup relations and support equitable school experiences for our nation’s children. We believe that schools must educate all students for full participation in a diverse democracy.”

On this #ThankfulThursday and International Day for Tolerance, we are especially appreciative of those who promote tolerance and acceptance, welcoming diversity at any cost.
