“Volunteering in Lawrence, particularly at Fidelity House Human Services, has opened my eyes to a world I could not previously fathom. The first time I arrived at Fidelity House, I didn’t know what to expect, but I kept an open mind. I was to help a man with a developmental disability make a digital card for someone he loves. At first I struggled but after breaking down communication barriers such as language, I was able to see him as a human being in world of diversity more than someone who needs help. Volunteering has helped me discover the community around me and it is quite remarkable.”
